チェマット ドルジェイ Chemat Dorjey

ツェリング・ユードル、ジャミャング・ナムギャル、チェマット・ドルジェイの3名は、2025年4月に来日し、遊牧民と家畜、野生動物との濃密な関係性を、イマジネーションあふれる絵画作品を通じて伝えました。チェマット・ドルジェイは、2017年に日本の美術家淺井裕介氏のワークショップに参加したことがきっかけで、ラダックで入手可能な素材を用いた制作に開眼しました。ラダックの現代アートを牽引する彼は今回、新たな手法での彫刻作品に挑戦します。

チェマット・ドルジェイ 美術家 1989年、サクティ村出身。学生時代より数々の賞を受賞し、ラダックの現代アーティスト第一世代。専門である彫刻の領域を拡張し、ラダックの歴史、遺産、文化に宿る美しさを金属、糸、ペーパーマッシュ、顔料など多様な素材を用いて表現し、独自の世界観を創り出している。2017年レー旧市街に スピンドルアートスタジオ＆ギャラリーを設立。

In April 2025, three artists—Tsering Youdol, Jamyang Namgyal, and Chemat Dorje—visited Japan, where they conveyed the deep relationships between nomads, livestock, and wildlife through richly imaginative paintings.
For Chemat Dorjey, a turning point came in 2017 when he participated in a workshop by the Japanese artist Yusuke Asai. This experience led him to explore creating works using materials readily available in Ladakh locally. Now recognized as a leading figure in Ladakhi contemporary art, he will take on a new challenge this time by experimenting with sculptural work using a fresh approach.

Born in 1989 in Sakti village, he is part of the first generation of contemporary artists in Ladakh and received numerous awards during his student years. Expanding the boundaries of his primary field of sculpture, he creates a unique artistic world by expressing the beauty embedded in Ladakh’s history, heritage, and culture through a wide range of materials, including metal, thread, papier-mâché, and pigments. In 2017, he founded Spindle Art Studio & Gallery in Leh Old Town.
